Three Rivers Budokai

Welcome to the Three Rivers Budōkai, Will, Kendall and Grundy County’s exclusive venue for the study of classical Japanese martial traditions.
There are no children’s classes here—we leave that to the local studios and rec-centers. The pursuit of perfection is one for adults, undertaken in the spiritually intense and self-disciplined atmosphere of a traditional dōjō.
In our dōjō we strive to perfect the techniques, arts, and strategies born of Japan’s feudal samurai. The techniques forge the body and spirit. The arts cultivate an appreciation of quiet elegance. The strategies provide a limitless means to implement both in the present.
For us, learning a technique well enough to do it with proper form, speed, power, and without thinking, is a good beginning…
But that is all it is: a beginning.

Marcus Mariota more than willing to continue growing with current receivers

Titans tight end Delanie Walker said recently that he’d welcome Dez Bryant to Tennessee to round out the team’s wide receiver group, but there hasn’t been a sign that the team is plotting a move to bring the veteran to Nashville.

Mariota plans to get the receivers together before training camp starts in July and we’ll have to wait to find out if anyone new will be joining that group.

Owens’ decision comes after a drawn-out induction process to the Hall. Despite being second in career receiving yards behind Jerry Rice, the controversial wideout did not receive enough votes in 2016 and 2017 to get into Canton. His sometimes contentious relationship with the media and polarizing personality likely played a role in the delay.

Owens is also third in career touchdown receptions with 153, as he played for 14 years and made headlines with his stellar play and affinity for dramatic celebrations.

After playing in San Francisco for seven years, he spent two seasons in Philadelphia and three in Dallas, before ending his career with brief stops in Buffalo and Cincinnati. Owens, 44, has recently said he would like to return to the NFL, even highlighting the potential benefits of returning to the 49ers.

Belt was expected to be discharged from the hospital Saturay afternoon.

He will likely go on the disabled list and need an estimated two to three weeks to recover. notes Andres Torres had an appendectomy in September 2010 and returned in 13 days, but that was considered quick.

Belt was replaced Friday by Pablo Sandoval, but losing Belt to the DL is be a big loss for the Giants. Prior to Friday’s game, he led the Giants in batting average (.307), home runs (11) and RBIs (31).

He’s been swinging the bat as well as anybody in the National League, second baseman Joe Panik said of Belt (via You never want to take that bat out of the lineup and that glove out of the field. Hopefully he’ll bounce back quickly and have the year we know he can have.

He missed all 16 games and spent the last month of season rehabbing in Europe.

N.J. lawmakers OK sports betting. But will Phil Murphy allow it to begin Friday?

New Jersey lawmakers on Thursday passed historic legislation that would finally authorize legal sports betting in the state — though there’s still confusion about when you can actually begin placing bets.

Both houses of the state Legislature overwhelmingly approved the measure, which would allow people over the age of 21 to bet on sports games, both online and in person at casinos and racetracks — and bring millions in new tax revenue to the state each year.

That means casinos and tracks could begin offering bets as soon as the state Legislature passes the bill — without having to wait for Gov. Gov. Phil Murphy to sign it into law.

The Giants stick out like a sore thumb coming off a 3-13 season, but Brandt previously said they had the best offseason of any team in the NFL.

One problem for the Giants? The division rival Eagles are ranked as the most-talented team coming off a Super Bowl title.

In short, New York has a chance to emulate Philly’s worst-to-first run from last year — especially if the Giants can master the Eagles in their head-to-head matches this season.

The Giants will face five of the other nine teams included in Brandt’s list during a grueling regular- season schedule.

Colin Kaepernick’s attorneys likely to subpoena President Trump: Is Giants’ John Mara next?

When her story came to the attention of the Yankees, the team offered her their support and let the world know that they are against bullying by filming a video of their own featuring virtually the entire roster and manager Aaron Boone. The team let her know that the Yankees were her friends, and that they’d love to have her at their lunch table in the clubhouse.

It meant so much to her and our family to see the Yankees get behind her, said her father, James Warner. What makes me so proud of Cassidy was that it wasn’t just about her. She wanted to make things better for other kids.

Waiting for the dramatic turn in Kaepernick case to come

As noted on Thursday, the dramatic turn in the Colin Kaepernick collusion grievance promised by lawyer Mark Geragos presents its own drama. Either Geragos delivers or he doesn’t, and he’ll take the heat that goes along with writing a check that reality couldn’t honor if there is no dramatic turn.

Although it’s been impossible to track down any details in the day or so since Geragos said what he said, I get the feeling it’s not Lockhart. I get the feeling it could be someone in even better position to drop the kind of dime that would indeed result in, well, it would be immature to use it a fifth time.

The Warriors are trying to join Bill Russell’s Celtics, the Bulls led by Michael Jordan and the Lakers’ trio of title runs fueled by George Mikan in the 1950s, Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the ’80s, and Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant nearly 20 years ago as the only franchises in NBA history to capture three championships in four years.

The Warriors are halfway there, holding a 2-0 lead against the underdog Cavs as the series shifts to Cleveland for Game 3 on Wednesday.

Listen, Golden State is one of the best teams I’ve ever played. It’s one of the best teams that’s ever been assembled, said James, who is playing in his eighth straight NBA Finals and fourth in a row against Golden State.

Curry, sharp-shooting Klay Thompson, fiery Draymond Green and 2015 Finals MVP Andre Iguodala make up an All-Star-studded squad trying to repeat after James thwarted that quest two years ago when the Cavs stopped the defending champs. Kevin Durant bolted from Oklahoma City to join the cast last season.

J.R. Smith’s mistake became a teaching tool for the Bears

jets_136Basketball and football are completely different games, but Bears coaches found a teachable moment for their players in the first game of the NBA Finals.

Cavaliers guard J.R. Smith blew a chance to break a tie in the final seconds of regulation when he followed up an offensive rebound by dribbling out the clock instead of shooting the ball. Smith initially said he knew the score of the game, but later admitted that he can’t say I was sure of anything at that point.

As the song goes, tomorrow is only a day away. Brady’s attendance might be more necessary for a quarterback who needs to get comfortable with four new receivers: Jordan Matthews, Cordarrelle Patterson, Kenny Britt and Braxton Berrios. That’s a lot of new names to remember, especially when a familiar face likely won’t be around come Week 1.

I’ve been throwing the ball down the field a lot more. Every quarterback loves that, he said, via the New York Daily News.

Under Ben McAdoo’s guidance the past several seasons, the Giants were a dink-and-dunk operation, often relying on Odell Beckham Jr. to make a defender miss to earn a big play.

In 2017, Manning averaged 5.51 air yards per pass, via Next Gen Stats, the fourth-lowest among qualifying players. Manning also ranked in the bottom 10 in longest air distance (46.2) and longest air distance yards (35.07). The Giants ‘ pass offense was an inefficient mess, especially without Beckham. Manning finished 2017 with a 5.7 adjusted yards gained per pass attempt, 26th in the NFL, per Pro Football Reference.

$470,588 in base salary plus $125,000 in per-game roster bonuses and $392,157 of his signing bonus will also be recouped. He will not be able to be at the Patriots’ facility for meetings or practice or have contact with members of the coaching staff during his suspension.

Astros outlast Rangers after A.J. Hinch argues for balk call

jets_135The Houston Astros scored the winning run against the Texas Rangers on Sunday when manager A.J. Hinch successfully argued that the Rangers’ Keone Kela had balked with a runner on third, even though the call hadn’t originally been made on the field.

Banister told reporters that his problem was that nobody on the field originally called a balk.

The explanation was to me that Key didn’t tell anybody that he was going out of the windup. … I’ve never seen a non-balk call turned over and called a balk, he said.

My argument was that I didn’t know that we could come out and get the umpires to convene to try to see what everybody came up with. It’s upsetting in a sense that you can’t ague against a balk, he said.

The Astros completed a four-game sweep of the Rangers with the victory.

Francona says the Indians were waiting another day to decide whether to place catcher Roberto Perez on the DL. He was hit by a pitch in the right wrist against Detroit on Sunday.

The Indians recalled catcher and outfielder Francisco Mejia from Triple-A Columbus and optioned right-hander Evan Marshall to the minor league club.

My working assumption about shifts in baseball has been that they work so often that when they don’t, it sticks in our minds. I also kind of figured pitchers who get burned by a shift now and again tend to see it the same way.

It’s a similar dynamic to errors. They are a rare thing these days. We’re on pace for 2,730 errors this season, which would be a record low, and the league-level fielding percentage (.985) is in a race with 2013 as the best ever. So when a player does commit a miscue, especially at a key juncture of a ballgame, we remember it. We don’t remember the six plays he made in other parts of the ballgame without incident.

Bauers put Tampa Bay ahead in the fourth inning and the Rays went on to an 8-4 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night.

jets_134Bauers and fellow 22-year-old Willy Adames drove in four runs, and left-hander Ryan Yarbough pitched six innings to help the Rays win for only the second time in 11 games.

Playing in his fifth major league game, Bauers got on base his first four times and scored three runs. The rookie first baseman spent much of the game looking across the diamond at Adames, a shortstop who was recalled from the minor leagues earlier Monday.

We kept making eye contact, Bauers said. We’ve played for three or four years (in the minors) with each other, and for all of it to come together here now, it was pretty special.

LF Yoenis Cespedes (strained right hip flexor) had his minor league rehab assignment halted following a setback Saturday. He was headed to the team’s complex in Florida, and there’s no timetable for his return. The club had hoped Cespedes would be back Tuesday night in Atlanta. … Mets closer Jeurys Familia (sore shoulder) and infielder Wilmer Flores (sore lower back) are both headed to Florida and the team is very optimistic they will be activated off the disabled list during the upcoming road trip, Callaway said.

Other interleague games that may impact some bats this week include a pair between the Reds and Royals in Kansas City (more at-bats for Jesse Winker). The Marlins will be at the Orioles for a pair, which could net some playing time for Cameron Maybin. While the Rangers will end up losing their DH for that two-game set against the Dodgers Shin-Soo Choo and Adrian Beltre managers take note they get the extra bat back at the end of the week with a trio of contests hosting the Rockies. Texas is expected to throw a pair of lefties in the series, so I’m not sure that Ryan McMahon will take those extra hacks in all three games.

Potential two-start options to consider include Seattle’s Wade LeBlanc, who has two home starts, one against the likely Ohtani’s bat-less Angels and one facing the Red Sox, who may or may not have Mookie Betts (abdominal) back in the lineup. Jake Odorizzi takes to the road to face the Tigers and Indians in Week 11. While I’m not sure I trust him against Cleveland, Detroit is batting just .227 this month through games of June 7. ESPN Fantasy recently discussed doubts regarding Clay Buchholz going forward, with games against the slumping Pirates (.219 BA in June) and Mets (league-worst at .140) ahead, he may be worth the risk.

Jabrill Peppers will be allowed to be bad closer to the line of scrimmage

jets_133Last season the Brown s were forced to play their first round pick at the completely wrong position. To be fair, Jabrill Peppers was a bit of an outcast entering the NFL. He played a ton of positions at Michigan including (but not limited to) running back, linebacker, safety and I’m pretty sure he helped mow the grass from time to time. His overall athletic ability really stood out to teams though, and the Browns ended up being the team stuck with figuring out what position fits him best.

It is no secret that the Steelers whine a lot. If you watch any game or postgame press conference, they always seems to be complaining about something. Sticking with the OTA theme it seems the Steelers are practicing their whining against their teammates much like they are practicing their plays against each other. Antonio Brown had this to say about Le’Veon Bell’s hold out as the running back once again isn’t showing up to OTAs.

Well, the first rule of getting better is showing up,Brown said, via the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. You can’t make anything better without showing up. So I think if you show up, I think everyone will understand where you want to be. That you wants to be here not just this year but for years to come. Come out here and show up, show you want to get better and show guys you’re serious.

According to CNN, Giuliani remains focused on the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller:

During a Sunday appearance on CNN’s State of the Union, Giuliani called into question the special counsel’s Russia probe, defended Trump’s political attacks on the Mueller team and called former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper and former CIA Director John Brennan two clowns.

Taking a break from his day job, Giuliani had a prime seat to watch Astros ace Justin Verlander dominate the Yankees on Monday. Verlander gave up just one run ( a Greg Bird solo home run ) in 6.2 innings of work.

Raiders sign Dallin Leavitt, Drew Scott

The Raiders signed safety Dallin Leavitt and long snapper Drew Scott, the club announced Monday.

Leavitt and Scott participated in the team’s rookie minicamp on a tryout basis.

Leavitt played two seasons at Utah State after transferring from BYU, appearing in a total of 45 games with 26 starts. He made 211 tackles, seven interceptions, eight pass breakups and 1.5 sacks in his career.

Yeah, the Packers actually invested in not one, but two high-profile free agents this year, adding tight end Jimmy Graham to help Aaron Rodgers out in the red zone and defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson to contribute up front.

Add in that Rodgers has seemingly been in a bad mood all offseason, and this team could be dangerous when they take the field in September.

Extrapolate quarterback Deshaun Watson’s seven-game start to the 2017 season over the course of the entire year and here’s what you get…

Of course, we’ll never know what Watson actually had in store for us in the second half of 2017 since the football gods robbed of us of that opportunity after the No. 12 overall pick tore his right ACL in an early-November practice.cardinals_029

Mitchell Trubisky was an NFL infant when he took the field for organized team activities with the Chicago Bears last spring.

This time around, he’s locked in as the starting quarterback.

That—along with a 94.0 passer rating and a completion percentage of 67.1—was enough to earn Garoppolo a five-year, $137.5 million deal in San Francisco.

When the 49ers kick off OTAs next week, Garoppolo will work practices as a bona fide starting quarterback for the first time in his NFL career.

Soon after San Francisco acquired Garoppolo at the 2017 trade deadline, head coach Kyle Shanahan noted it would be difficult for the former New England Patriots backup to get the system down without having attended the offseason program, per Chris Biderman of USA Today.

Maybe this year she will master just that. Either way, Sherman figures she’ll have a good time participating in a clinic designed to instill in women football fundamentals while raising money for the Epilepsy Foundation.

Toughest tests: Get out the frequent-flier miles. Detroit has West Coast trips to Arizona and San Francisco, plus visits to Dallas and Miami. Buffalo could be a cold-weather challenge. The good news: Minnesota is Detroit’s only road game against a NFC playoff team from last season.

The Cardinals figure to use Johnson in a variety of ways this season so we’ll see how much he actually does wind up running behind a fullback, but the presence of one on the roster is a reminder that Johnson’s returning to a different team than the one he last played for in Week One of the 2017 season.

The 2017 Philadelphia Eagles were unlikely champions, but given that they were a team with consecutive 10-win seasons in 2013 and 2014, we can do better. The obvious candidate is arguably the most unlikely championship team in American sports history.cowboys_075

49ers claim C.J. Goodwin off waivers

ravens_152Cornerback C.J. Goodwin is getting to see a good bit of the country this offseason.

He opened it as a member of the Cardinals, moved on to the Giants after being waived in early May and is now joining the 49ers. Goodwin was waived by the Giants on Monday and claimed by the Niners on Tuesday.

“We all want the same thing — respect for our nation and the flag, the focus on our game and a pledge to advancing social justice that will be absolute and stand the test of time. I believe we’re closer to that today, and I know that the Jacksonville Jaguars will be committed to those ideals this season and into the future.”

According to multiple reports, Worrilow spent some time on the ground in pain before he was helped in a cart with an air cast on his injured knee.

Worrilow, who started 44 games in four years for the Falcons before playing a single season with the Lions in 2017, signed a one-year deal with the Eagles this offseason.

Philadelphia hoped Worrilow would be an insurance policy behind middle linebacker Jordan Hicks while he recovers from a ruptured Achilles. Now it appears the defending Super Bowl champs will have to find a Plan C.

The Golden Knights are Canada’s team because the legacy of the Canadian Football League’s Las Vegas Posse will not be ignored nor denied, especially that time their anthem singer sang “O Canada” to the tune of “O Christmas Tree.”

The Golden Knights are Canada’s team because they played by the rules. Granted, they were incredibly generous, unprecedented rules, but what else does one expect when one pays $500 million for a hockey team — or $644 million Canadian?ravens_149
